Editorial Policy

This editorial policy explains how Papers Open researches, writes, reviews and corrects its guides.

Purpose

Our guides exist to help students plan and write their own work. We do not sell papers or write papers for submission.

Who writes our guides

Guides are produced by the Papers Open Editorial Team. Guides are reviewed by an editor before they are published.

Research and sources

Advice on structure and formatting is checked against the current edition of the relevant style manual (for example APA, MLA or Chicago) and against guidance published by university writing centres. Where a guide relies on a specific source, we list it at the end of the guide.

Review and updates

We review guides regularly. When a style manual is revised, a rule changes or we find that advice is out of date, we update the guide.

Examples and templates

Sample excerpts and templates are written for illustration. They use invented or generic topics and are not real student submissions. They are for learning, not for copying.

Corrections

If you find an error, tell us through the contact page. We review reports promptly and correct confirmed mistakes.

Advertising and independence

We may show advertising to fund the site. Advertisers never influence what we write, and ads are kept visibly separate from editorial content. Read our advertising disclosure.

Use of AI tools

Our thesis statement generator uses fixed sentence frames, not AI. Guides are written and reviewed by people; any assistance from software is checked by an editor before publication.

Independence from institutions

Papers Open is not affiliated with any school, college, university or examination body. See our disclaimer.
